How to apply for our opportunity class

Opportunity classes are one of the ways that the department supports high potential and gifted students. These are students who learn faster and more easily than others.

It is a two-year program from Year 5 to 6. Parents and carers cannot apply for Year 6 placement only.

You can apply even if our school is outside your local enrolment area. Enrolment is by application only. Students must sit the placement test to be offered a place.

We offer an equal number of places for girls and boys. Learn more at Gender parity model

When to apply

Applications are now closed for opportunity class entry in 2027

There is no late application period. If you have a question about your current application, please visit Selective high schools and opportunity classes. You can also send a message to the Selective Education Team in your application dashboard.

Applications usually open in early November (when students are in Year 3) and close in February the next year. You can choose up to 4 schools to apply to.

Kindergarten 2027

We are excited to welcome our Kindergarten 2027 students to Camden South Public School.

To support a smooth transition to school, we offer a number of events and programs throughout the year. These include our Kinder Information Evening held in Term 2 and our Kindergarten Orientation Sessions, which takes place in October and November.

In addition, during the first few weeks of the school year, we conduct the Best Start Assessment Program to help us better understand each child’s learning needs from the outset.

“From nervous beginnings to daily excitement - the orientation and Best Start program made starting school such a positive experience. Our child loves coming to Camden South each day, where learning is fun, classrooms are welcoming, and every child feels they belong. We’re so grateful to be part of this wonderful school community.”
