Support classes

At Camden South Public School, we proudly host four Multi-Categorical (MC) support classes, each designed to meet the diverse learning, social, and emotional needs of students through highly individualised programs. Class sizes in support classes are usually smaller than mainstream classes, ensuring a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every child is known, valued, and cared for. Our dedicated teachers and School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) work collaboratively to help every student achieve their personal learning goals while being active members of the broader school community.

🧩 Support Unit Placement in NSW Public Schools

Support unit placement in NSW schools involves a formal Access Request process initiated through the local school’s Learning and Support Team. This request is reviewed by a placement panel, which determines a student’s eligibility based on the Department of Education’s disability criteria and the availability of an appropriate support class. Please note that students cannot directly enrol in these specialist classes. Visit the Department of Education for more information

⚙️ How the Process Works

1. Initial contact: Speak with your local public school about your child’s learning and support needs.
2. Access request: The school will help you complete an official Access Request form.
3. Placement panel review: A regional placement panel considers all access requests in the area.
4. Eligibility assessment: The panel determines whether your child meets the department’s disability criteria for a support class.
5. Placement decision: If eligible and a place is available, a placement will be offered at a suitable school.
6. Annual review: Each placement is reviewed every year to ensure it continues to meet the student’s needs and promote growth.
